The global clean energy industry employs about 8.1 million people
The International Renewable Energy Agency IRENA recently released a report saying that the number of employed people in the clean energy industry is rising. According to statistics, by the end of 2015, the global clean energy industry employed about 8.1 million people, an increase of nearly 400,000 compared with 7.7 million at the end of 2014.
The report pointed out that in the United States, for example, in 2015, the solar energy (000591) industry employment exceeded the oil and gas exploration industry for the first time. The number of new jobs in the solar industry is 12 times that of all other industries. In contrast, due to the rapid decline in oil prices, the number of layoffs in the global oil and gas industry has reached 351,410.
According to Adnan Amin, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency, “Renewable energy employment is rising compared to the overall employment trend in the energy sector, mainly because of favorable policies and declining renewable energy costs. We expect that In 2030, the global clean energy industry is expected to reach 24 million."
